Phillip Baney, director of the Battered Mother's Resource Fund, believes that a mother in this situation needs a safe place to live, with her children, where she can get medical attention, legal assistance, and job skills training.
"We're helping mothers and children find shelter together, but then what?
These women have no money, so unless there's family to take them in when their time in the shelter is up, before long they're right back in the abusive situation."
The Freedom Ranch of Missouri was born.
Freedom ranch, when completed, will house ten mothers and up to 40 children, in a safe country atmosphere where they can stay long enough to acquire the confidence and skills to provide a decent life for themselves and their children. They need not be current residents of
